FAQs
HOW DO I APPLY?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I APPLY?
Once you have applied for a place at The Hope Centre you will receive a letter confirming that you are on our waiting list. When a suitable place becomes available you will be contacted and invited in for a screening.
At the screening your child will be seen by 2 or 3 members of our team who will informally assess your child’s needs. The screening will last approximately 1 hour, you will have a chance to look around the centre, ask any questions you may have.
You will be contacted again shortly after the screening and be told whether Hope is able to offer your child a place. An individualised programme will then be created in discussion with you and your child’s school.
HOW CAN I HAVE MY CHILD ASSESSED?
Just contact the Centre and request an application form or dowload the application from the website. If you would like to speak to someone about your child before you apply call the main number (020 8809 8240) and ask to speak to Luci Austin (Centre Manager).
If you are interested in a stand alone assessment and not intervention please mention this when you call.
CAN I APPLY TO THE CENTRE JUST FOR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY OR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?
Yes you can. Although we believe in a holistic approach to our students needs if a child applies who has specific occupational therapy or speech and language therapy requirements they will be screened by the relevant person who will then devise a programme for your child.
WILL I RECEIVE A REPORT FOLLOWING THE ASSESSMENT?
We do not write any formal reports following the initial screening. You will receive a thorough report after you child has been with us for half a term..
WHAT TIMES ARE THE SESSIONS?
The Centre is open during school terms, we run to the same term dates as Brent Local Authority. Sessions run Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm on most days. We do our utmost to accommodate you and your child’s needs and find sessions that have the least interruptions to you and your child’s life.
HOW OFTEN DOES MY CHILD NEED TO COME?
In order to generalise learning we recommend a minimum of 2 sessions per week
DO I HAVE TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE SESSIONS?
We encourage parental and school involvement so that your child’s learning can be optimised.
I CAN’T GET TO THE CENTRE WILL YOU COME TO MY HOUSE OR SCHOOL?
We do offer an outreach service where our mediators and therapists come to your child’s school. Please speak to the Head of Education if you would prefer sessions to take place in school. Depending on your child’s programme you may need to bring your child to the Centre for some sessions.
I CAN’T AFFORD TO PAY, CAN I STILL COME?
There are a small number of bursaries available. Please contact hope@norwood.org.uk or telephone 020 8809 8240 for more details of how to apply.
